ASSOCIATE, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES

LURN is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to building sustainable communities through innovative urban planning strategies, advocacy, action-oriented research, and responsible development. Founded in 2008, the organization employs a multi-disciplinary approach to its work, creating spaces for new ideas, compiling research, supporting local entrepreneurs and leaders, and helping other organizations implement their innovations.

LURN administers a suite of economic development initiatives that provide resources to businesses and entrepreneurs in low-income neighborhoods. These initiatives include:

 

 

In addition to this work, LURN advocates for thoughtful urban policy such as the legalization of street vendors, and maintains a portfolio of clients through its mission-oriented consulting practice, LURN Advisors.

 

Position Overview

LURN is seeking an Associate to support LURN’s economic development initiatives with a primary focus on the COMPRA Foods initiative, a purchasing cooperative and distribution system for small grocers. Over the last couple of years, COMPRA Foods has expanded its network of stores in low-income neighborhoods of Los Angeles but to continue its progression, LURN needs a leader who can help review operations, create new procedures where necessary, and lead the initiative to becoming a sustainable enterprise. For LURN and its partners, COMPRA Foods has the potential to be a stand-alone social enterprise with the right leadership.

We believe this position requires a self-motivated, energetic individual, who is excited to work with a wide range of community members and program partners. The position will require an ability to adapt to a changing environment, the capacity to problem solve effectively, and to forecast future challenges and opportunities. The Associate will report to the Director of Programs and Operations and will work closely with LURN staff on other projects as necessary.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSOCIATE

Founded in 2008, the organization employs a multi-­‐disciplinary approach to its work, creating spaces for new ideas, compiling research, supporting local entrepreneurs and leaders, and helping other organizations implement their innovations.


Position Overview

LURN is seeking a part-time Administrative Associate to support the LURN team, office operations, and the administration and execution of its various policy initiatives, projects, events, and other special projects. The Administrative Associate is a self-motivated, creative individual who will be working closely with the entire team on all aspects of LURN’s programming and operations. This person must be able to work independently and have the ability to manage multiple projects.
